Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a severe type of anxiety disorder, that results after you’ve seen or experienced a traumatic event. It can occur at any age and can result from a serious accident, military combat, an assault, domestic abuse, rape, terrorism, war, being diagnosed with a life threatening illness, a stay in prison, and natural disasters such as a flood or fire. The exact cause of PTSD remains a mystery, however, psychological, genetic, physical and social factors are involved.
It is not known why traumatic events cause PTSD in some people but not others. It usually causes the affected person to have a lack of trust in other people, and the world in general, making therapy for this disorder more challenging for the therapist as they must allow time for a secure relationship to develop between them and their client.
